The Second Generation
It has been estimated in research that about 50 to 75 % of Holocaust survivors have suffered of PTSD. These survivors have raised a whole new generation between the 40’s and the 70’s of the past century. How has this affected the so called Second Generation ? What positive and negative psychological consequences have they endured ? Was it possible for them at all to grow up without any form of damage ? Many members of the Second Generation have never spoken up. In this workshop we assess truths and myths in three parts. We offer a non-judgmental environment for participants to share their impressions, feelings and frustrations. Using the public’s questions, we elaborate on scientific insights relating to traumas, taboos and strengths of the Second Generation.

Vor einiger Zeit nahm ich an einer Reihe von sehr interessanten Vortraegen teil, die von Esther Landau gegeben wurden und sich mit den Erfahrungen und Problemen befassten, denen wir, die Kinder der Holocaust Ueberlebenden ausgesetzt waren und teilweise noch immer ausgesetzt sind. Die Vortraege endeten oft in Debatten und Meinungsverschiedenheiten, die fuer dieses Thema eine gewisse Selbstverstaendlichkeit haben. Esther Landau beeindruckte uns mit ihrer Fachkenntnis, ihrer objektiven und souveraenen Arbeitsweise und ihrer speziellen Art, die Gespraeche in die richtige Perspektive lenken.
Notre espace de parole pour les 2ièmes génération sur la Shoah sous ta direction et son impact transgénérationel sur le public belge reste un moment fort de Sparks of Glory. Ton approche exceptionnellement humain dans une structure professionnelle inégalée reste un exemple de thérapie de groupe.
